The Five Stages of Learning:
Transforming the Way White Men (and All of Us) Lead on Diversity & Inclusion
There are six million white men who hold leadership jobs in America. Everyone has a stake in white men understanding the business case and the career advantage in diversity and inclusion. There are five stages to transforming the way we lead among diverse colleagues and customers: Pre-Awareness, Interest & Necessity, Careful Skill Progress, Adventurous Competence, and Relative Expertise. Each stage is defined and illustrated, emphasizing the positive power in leadership, specific behaviors of courage, and Diversity-Related Performance Objectives that deliver business results.
Trust-Powered Leadership: Breakthrough Results via Diversity & Inclusion
Trust is the making and keeping of promises over time, and trust is also the single most important asset for leading on diversity effectively. Drill into trust building through the specific leadership behaviors embedded in four primary promises:
- Lead by making promises that matter.
- Lead by keeping the promises you make.
- Lead by making and keeping promises that evoke reciprocity.
- When leadership promises are broken, spend relational capital wisely, and invest in conflict resolution.
The Transformative Impact of Diversity-Related Performance Objectives
While the awareness of dynamics around inclusive diversity is essential, we must focus on behavior, on leading to achieve results by developing people through work. The Diversity-Related Performance Objective (DRPO) is a tested five-step method to translate diversity learning into purposeful action. DRPOs for leaders at all levels deliver three results: building stronger relationships with all co-workers and customers, optimizing learning on diversity and inclusion to fuel improved personal performance, and accomplishing measurable results for the organization.
Invincible Women, Greathearted Men: The Skills of High-Performing Collaboration
Invincible: Cannot be defeated due to great strength and skill. Greathearted: Courageous in spirit and action. For the first time in history, the workforce is equally composed of women and men. And every professional must focus their energy to succeed with customers of both genders. So the stakes are high when it comes to men and women delivering results through high-performing relationships. Develop these collaborative skills to produce four outcomes: Personal Clarity and Confidence, Trust-Powered Relationships, Fearless Feedback, and High-Impact Team Results.
How To Lead With Respect And Candor: Why Political Correctness Hurts Business
The idea of political correctness speaks to the tension between using words respectfully and saying what needs to be said. Every leader must sort through this false choice, because respect and candor depend on one another, and successful teams benefit from both. Focus on avoiding words that wound by matching intent with impact; provide corrective feedback without worrying about accusations of bias; and, during hiring and promotion decisions, leading constructive conversations about qualifications and preference.
Mr. Shelton will tailor his speech to the interests and needs of your audience.
